80 Nations Unite to Condemn Drone Strike on UAE Nuclear Plant

  • Drone Strike Near UAE Nuclear Plant Triggers Global Condemnation

Bahrain, 78 countries, and the European Union have jointly condemned a drone attack targeting electrical infrastructure near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE, calling it a serious threat to global peace and security.

The attack, carried out by Iraqi armed groups on May 17, 2026, struck facilities outside the plant's inner perimeter—close enough to trigger international alarm over potential radiological and environmental consequences.

"A Flagrant Violation of International Law"

In a joint statement issued on June 15, 2026, the coalition described the strike as a direct violation of the United Nations Charter, warning it posed grave risks to civilian lives and cross-border safety.

The signatory nations—spanning five continents and including major powers such as the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, and regional neighbours Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Jordan—demanded accountability and called for the protection of nuclear infrastructure worldwide.

A Unified Global Front

The breadth of the condemnation was striking, with nations as diverse as Tonga, Uruguay, Syria, and Pakistan standing shoulder to shoulder in denouncing the attack.
