Dubai-Based Bhatkal Expat Dies After Collapsing During Cricket Match

Bhatkal, Dubai: Mohammed Safwan Shanu, a 38-year-old expatriate from Bhatkal, died after collapsing while playing cricket with friends in Dubai on Sunday, according to community sources.
Safwan, a resident of Azad Nagar in Bhatkal, reportedly complained of feeling unwell during a match held on the weekly holiday. He sat down on the field before losing consciousness. Friends who were with him rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he is believed to have died before medical treatment could be administered.
The sudden death has sent shockwaves through the Bhatkal community in both the UAE and his hometown. Safwan was well known for his involvement in social activities and was associated with the Nawayath Colony-based organisation YMSA.
He is survived by his wife, three sons and a four-month-old daughter. His parents have since travelled to Dubai to support the family during this difficult time.
Safwan had spent several years working in the UAE before starting his own business about five years ago. He had been residing in Dubai with his family and had last visited Bhatkal approximately a year ago.
Remembered by friends as a warm and approachable person with a deep love for cricket, Safwan had built strong ties within the expatriate community. Following news of his passing, many gathered at the hospital to pay their respects and offer condolences to his family.
