Gulf States Condemn Iran at the UN

Bahrain took the floor at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, delivering a powerful joint statement on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan — directly condemning Iran's attacks and their devastating human rights consequences.

Ambassador Abdullah Abdullatif Abdullah, Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, presented the statement during the High Commissioner's oral briefing, held under Human Rights Council Resolution 61/1, which examines the impact of Iran's attacks on GCC countries and Jordan.

The statement pulled no punches. The GCC and Jordan declared that Iranian strikes caused severe damage to civilian infrastructure, violating the fundamental rights of millions of citizens and residents. Critically, they argued the harm does not stop at borders — disruptions to energy facilities and essential services ripple outward, threatening regional and international security, economic stability, and the basic rights to health and development.

Iran was held directly responsible — not only for the immediate destruction, but for the broader humanitarian fallout. The statement condemned the attacks as clear violations of state sovereignty, international law, the UN Charter, and the principles of good neighbourliness.

The bloc reaffirmed its commitment to peace, dialogue, and diplomacy as the only path to resolving disputes.
