Jakarta: A 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's Sulawesi island on Tuesday, according to the country's geophysics agency BMKG.

The quake's epicentre was located about 42 kilometres southeast of the town of Palu at a depth of 10 kilometres, BMKG said.

Authorities said there was no risk of a tsunami following the earthquake. There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.

Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes due to its location along the Pacific 'Ring of Fire', a region known for intense seismic and volcanic activity.
