Tokyo: Fujitsu, the Japanese technology giant, stated that its chairman, Hidenori Furuta, had resigned after the company's board became aware of what it described as ‘woman-related inappropriate conduct.’ The resignation became effective on June 16, and Furuta also withdrew his candidature for re-election as a director at the company's upcoming shareholders' meeting.
Fujitsu did not provide any details about the alleged misbehaviour, just stating that it constituted inappropriate behaviour toward a woman. According to the corporation, the board of directors received Furuta's resignation request after becoming aware of the situation.
Fujitsu, which is currently under scrutiny for its involvement in the UK's Post Office Horizon affair, faces more difficulties as a result of the resignation. Over 900 sub-postmasters were wrongfully convicted as part of the company's flawed Horizon accounting system, which has drawn criticism. Settlement talks with the British government remain on.
Furuta, who held multiple senior executive positions at Fujitsu until becoming chairman in 2024, is one of numerous prominent Japanese business executives who have resigned in recent years due to accusations of misconduct.
