MP calls for establishing centre to help inventors

ManamaAn MP has called for establishing a centre to embrace the innovations of Bahrainis and support their inventions.

“Bahraini inventors are in need of government support to turn their inventions into products that can be used and marketed in the market as part of diversifcation,” MP Osama Al Khaja said in a statement issue here

“Local ideas and innovations receive great media attention when they’re announced, but they become unattained dreams when it comes to implementation,” Al Khaja noted.

The MP emphasised on the need to adopt local ideas and innovations by official bodies that he said should facilitate to grant them international patents to avoid copyright theft.

“There is a real need for a greater contribution from the government sector in helping the inventions of citizens and try to benefit from them and turn them into commercial products that meet the market’s needs and requirements. A government center to turn the inventions and innovations of the people of the homeland to products should be established,” al Khaja said in his statement.

“The centre should be a link between the inventor and the patent office in several countries of the world to facilitate the registration of patents and to ensure intellectual property protection, in addition to the need to provide the center with legal and financial support to facilitate the recognition of patents internationally and contribute to the delivery to the local market after adapting them to the standards to be met in the product before it is traded,” he explained further.

“Neighboring countries have noticed the importance of national wealth in enriching the economy with knowledge and experience as the human element is the first source in the knowledge-based economy because it is related to intellectual abilities to produce and disseminate knowledge, leading to the development of the society on all sides,” Al Khaja added.
