Big win for Malaysia

ManamaBahrain’s national under-19 team were crushed by nine wickets against hosts Malaysia in its opening International Cricket Council (ICC) Under 19 Cricket World Cup Asia Qualifier Division 2 yesterday at the Bayuemas Oval in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

Batting first, Bahrain were dismissed for just 56 in 33.2 overs. Skipper Mohammed Avais (10 off 49 deliveries) was the top scorer. Mohammed Hafiz picked up  5 wickets, conceding only 18 runs. The other wicket takers were Virandeep Singh (three for 14) and Syed Aziz (two for 16) .

An unbeaten 30 by Virandeep Singh helped Malaysia swiftly reach the target  in 14.3 overs. 

The qualifiers (over 50 overs per innings) continue until October 6, with 10 teams in two groups in the fray and playing on a round-robin basis.

Other results: Group A: Singapore 119/3 in 17.4 overs bt Qatar 114 all out in 38.1 overs by seven wickets. Group B: Hong Kong 220/7 in 50 overs bt UAE 159 all out in 44 overs by 51 runs. Oman 235 all out in 49.4 overs bt Thailand 93 all out in 32.2 overs by 142 runs.

Today schedule: Group A: Bahrain vs Saudi Arabia (Royal Selangor Club). Group B: Hong Kong vs Kuwait (Bayuemas Oval).
