Bahrainis detained in Qatar released
Manama : Three Bahraini men detained in Qatar for violating its sea boarders were released yesterday. The Bahrainis were arrested by Qatar Coast Guard officials eight days ago while fishing in the sea. They were supposed to face a Qatari court yesterday.
They were released following the intervention of HRH the Prime Minister, who directed the Foreign Ministry to follow up their case in coordination with the Bahraini Embassy in Qatar and the Qatari authorities.
“As per HRH Premier’s directives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in concert with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Qatar, had been in communication with the concerned authorities for the release of the sailors during the past few days. We also maintained constant touch with their families,” a ministry statement said. “The three Bahrainis are returning home now.”
DT News had reported earlier that the Bahrainis were fishing for fun. They were caught carrying two kilograms of fish.
“All the three people are not fishermen. They were only enjoying their time, but they entered the Qatari sea borders accidentally,” one of their relatives had commented earlier.
