From caps to number plates, F1 accessories fly off shelves
Manama : As much as people enjoyed the races, they equally enjoyed being able to collect souvenirs that would remind them of their participation at the F1 event held this year.
Local residents and visitors alike flocked to the F1 Merchandise stalls, grabbing accessories of their favourite teams.
One of the most popular products sold this year was the BIC number plate. Priced at BD10, it was the obvious selection and many shoppers were quick to grab one.
Caps, jackets, mugs, keychains, and even stuffed bears also became popular choices. “We saw many visitors, particularly male, buying caps and number plates. Every year the merchandise stalls get a good rush of people, especially on the last day of the race. This year, the items being sold the most are from the ‘Mercedes AMG Petronas’ team,” said one of the vendors.
Purchasing Scuderia Toro Rosso and Mercedes AMG Petronas polo shirts, Collen Dowding, originally from the United Kingdom but visiting from Saudi Arabia, told DT News that while the items for sale were over priced, they were souvenir to the whole experience and ordering the same items online and getting them delivered is a long and tedious process.
Voicing similar views, Jorge Thapa from Mexico said that he enjoyed the energy at the circuit and wanted to buy something that would showcase his support to Haas, “I would definitely be getting something that defines my loyalty to Haas F1 Team, because they have Mexican drivers,” he said.
