The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed a resolution issued by the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee during its 84th session. The resolution calls on the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately halt attacks and threats targeting commercial vessels, oil tankers, port infrastructure, and coastal civilian facilities.
The ministry said such actions pose serious risks to maritime safety and contribute to marine pollution in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Bahrain reaffirmed its firm position urging Iran to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817, as well as relevant IMO legal and environmental committee decisions, to ensure freedom and safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and other key waterways under international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
It also called for stronger regional and international cooperation to protect natural resources, biodiversity, and maritime and environmental security, describing these as essential pillars for stability and sustainable development in the region and globally.
