Trump Flies on Old Air Force One as Qatar-Gifted Jet Awaits Security Upgrades

Washington: US President Donald Trump has continued flying on the existing Air Force One after deciding that a Boeing 747 gifted by Qatar is not yet ready for presidential use due to unresolved security concerns.
US officials said the aircraft still requires extensive modifications, including secure communications systems and classified defensive measures to protect against surveillance, cyber threats and missile attacks before it can serve as the presidential aircraft.
Trump said heightened threats from Iran mean he cannot use a plane that has not received the highest level of security upgrades. The existing Air Force One fleet will remain in service until the work is completed on the Qatar-gifted jet.
The aircraft was donated by Qatar earlier this year as an interim solution while Boeing continues work on the next generation of Air Force One aircraft, which has faced years of delays.
