World Cup Basketball Action Begins in Berlin

His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, which began in Berlin, the German capital.

The ceremony was attended by German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, along with senior officials, sports personalities and representatives of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa also attended the tournament’s opening game between Germany and Spain. This marked the start of the global competition, which Berlin is hosting and which runs until September 16, featuring some of the world’s leading women’s national teams.

HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa’s attendance reflects his commitment, as a member of the FIBA Foundation Board, to actively participate in major international sporting events.

His presence also highlights the standing of Bahraini sports professionals within international sporting institutions, as well as the Kingdom of Bahrain’s active role in global sports forums and organisations.

The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup is one of the major tournaments organised by the International Basketball Federation, bringing together the world’s top national teams as they compete for the prestigious world title.
