China Imposes Restrictions on 56 US Firms in Trade Dispute

Beijing: China has imposed fresh trade restrictions on 56 American companies in response to Washington's decision to add more Chinese firms to a Pentagon list of entities alleged to have links to Beijing's military.

China's Commerce Ministry placed 10 US companies on its export control list, restricting exports of dual-use items from China to those firms. The affected companies include rare earth producers, drone manufacturers and defence-related suppliers.

In a separate move, China's Finance Ministry barred 46 US companies, most of them defence contractors, from participating in government procurement projects.

The measures follow a recent US decision to add several major Chinese technology companies to its military-linked entities list, including Alibaba, Baidu and BYD.

Analysts said China's response appears largely symbolic, targeting firms with limited exposure to the Chinese market while signalling opposition to US actions. They added that both sides appear keen to avoid a broader escalation in tensions despite continuing disputes over technology and national security.
