A severe heat wave is sweeping across much of Europe, prompting weather warnings and public safety measures as temperatures approach record levels in several countries.

In France, temperatures are expected to reach between 39°C and 40°C by Sunday, with forecasters predicting that the intense heat will extend from the southwest through the Paris region and into Burgundy. Some areas could see temperatures climb as high as 41°C.

Germany has issued near-nationwide heat alerts as temperatures approach 38°C. The German Meteorological Service warned that the combination of high temperatures and humidity could trigger severe thunderstorms in parts of the country.

Italy is also experiencing extreme conditions, with temperatures forecast to reach between 36°C and 37°C in several regions. The heat is already affecting daily life and tourism activities in a number of towns and cities.

In Spain, authorities have taken precautionary measures, with the national football federation announcing the closure of its fan zone featuring giant screens at Madrid’s Plaza de Colón due to the intense heat.

Scientists continue to warn that climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of heat waves across Europe, raising concerns over public health risks, pressure on infrastructure and potential economic disruption during the summer season.

Authorities across the continent have urged residents and visitors to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and follow official health and weather advisories as temperatures continue to rise.
