Bahrain International Trophy Earns Prestigious Group 1 Status
Historic achievement strengthens Bahrain’s position among the world’s leading horse racing destinations
Bahrain achieved a major milestone in the international horse racing scene after the Bahrain International Trophy was officially upgraded to the highest international classification, Group 1 status, by the Asian Racing Federation.
His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Court and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) described the achievement as a historic milestone that further cements Bahrain’s position among the world’s leading countries in the horse racing sector.
HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman said the accomplishment reflects the continued support and attention given to the equestrian sector by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The Group 1 upgrade follows the Asian Racing Federation's announcement and marks a significant addition to Bahrain’s growing record of achievements in horse racing. HH Shaikh Isa said the recognition represents the success of an ambitious journey that began with the Bahrain International Trophy's launch in 2019.
He noted that the international classification confirms the strong reputation Bahrain has built over seven editions of the race, enhancing the Kingdom’s presence on the global racing calendar and increasing its competitiveness among elite international events.
HH Shaikh Isa highlighted that the Bahrain International Trophy has gained growing worldwide recognition, attracting leading owners, trainers, jockeys, and stables from across the globe. He expressed appreciation to all who contributed to the race’s success and said Bahrain looks forward to welcoming more top international competitors, world-class horses, and renowned racing teams for the 2026 edition.
He added that the achievement reflects Bahrain’s advanced organisational capabilities and its ability to host major international sporting events, praising the efforts of organising committees, administrative teams, and national professionals whose work contributed to the race’s continued success.
