MOSCOW/KYIV: Russia and Ukraine have successfully executed a major prisoner-of-war exchange, with each country releasing 185 captives, marking one of the largest humanitarian swaps since the conflict escalated.
The simultaneous release followed intense, weeks-long diplomatic mediation by the United Arab Emirates, which has consistently brokered prisoner exchanges between the two warring nations.
Ukrainian officials confirmed that the returning service members included border guards, national guardsmen, and defenders from the besieged city of Mariupol, many of whom require urgent medical attention and psychological rehabilitation.
Concurrently, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that its freed soldiers have been flown to Moscow on military transport aircraft for medical treatment.
Both nations expressed gratitude to the mediating international partners, emphasizing that negotiations will continue for future repatriations.
