Kuwait revokes citizenship of 415 people under six decrees

Kuwait has revoked the citizenship of 415 people under six decrees published in the country’s official gazette, as authorities continue a broader review of nationality cases.

The measures also extend in several cases to individuals who obtained Kuwaiti nationality through dependency on the people whose citizenship was withdrawn.

Under Decree No. 155 of 2026, citizenship certificates were revoked for six people, along with those who had acquired nationality through dependency.

Decree No. 156 covered the largest group, with citizenship withdrawn from 286 people and their dependants who had obtained nationality through them.

A further 14 women were affected under Decree No. 157, while Decree No. 158 revoked the citizenship of 25 people and those who had acquired nationality through them.

Under Decree No. 159, citizenship was withdrawn from 41 people, as well as dependants who had obtained Kuwaiti nationality through them.

The sixth measure, Decree No. 160, revoked the citizenship of another 43 people and those who had acquired nationality through dependency.

The six decrees therefore cover 415 principal cases. However, the overall number of people affected is higher where the measures extend to dependants.

The latest decisions form part of Kuwait’s continuing review of citizenship records and follow a series of nationality-related measures in recent months.
