Trump launches ‘Super Intelligence Force’ to coordinate US AI strategy
US President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new federal task force, the “Super Intelligence Force” (SIF), to coordinate the government’s approach to artificial intelligence and strengthen US leadership in the rapidly developing technology sector.
The initiative will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, who will head a four-member leadership team responsible for coordinating federal efforts on what the administration now refers to as “super intelligence.”
The team also includes Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering and Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. The group will report directly to President Donald Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
President Donald Trump said the force would coordinate the federal government’s engagement with consumers, public interest organisations, religious organisations, critical infrastructure providers and technology companies.
The announcement follows an executive order issued by President Donald Trump directing federal agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official government operations, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
The order also calls for the development of a new statutory definition of “Super Intelligence.” The Assistant to the President for Science and Technology has 60 days to submit proposed legislative language to Congress and recommend corresponding changes to existing federal laws.
The creation of the SIF comes after President Donald Trump hosted executives from major technology companies at the White House, where industry leaders discussed the development and safety of advanced AI systems and signed a voluntary agreement concerning safeguards and oversight.
Among those involved in the discussions were SpaceX and Tesla chief Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, alongside leaders from other major AI companies.
The new task force is intended to bring together national security, technology, regulatory and federal workforce expertise as Washington seeks to coordinate its response to the rapid expansion of advanced AI.
President Donald Trump has described the technology as potentially more significant than previous major technological transformations, while members of his administration have highlighted both its opportunities and implications for US national security.
