Trump says Ukrainian Strikes on Russian Refineries for Higher US Gas Prices
US President Donald Trump on Monday blamed Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries for rising gasoline prices in the United States, saying the impact of the Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz was no longer the main factor.
In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump said increased oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz had reduced its role in pushing up gasoline prices, while pointing to Russian refineries damaged by Ukrainian attacks.
Trump also blamed refinery closures in US states governed by Democrats, arguing that reduced refining capacity was contributing to higher prices.
His comments come as global fuel markets remain under pressure from disruptions linked to the wars in Iran and Ukraine. Recent reporting has also pointed to attacks on Russian refineries as a factor affecting fuel supplies and prices.
Ukraine has intensified strikes against Russian energy infrastructure, with Ukrainian officials saying recent attacks have affected more than half of Russia's oil refining capacity. That figure has not been independently verified.
The issue has become politically significant in the United States as Trump faces the November 3 midterm elections, in which his Republican Party is seeking to retain control of Congress.
