UK Court Ends 23-Year Legal Feud, Awards Indian-Origin Woman £6.6 Million Over Hidden Assets

LONDON: An Indian-origin woman has been awarded a £6.6 million settlement in London, concluding a 23-year legal battle dubbed one of the longest divorce disputes in British history.
Varsha Gohil initially settled her 2002 divorce from her solicitor husband, Bhadresh Gohil, for a modest £270,000. However, she reopened the case after discovering he had concealed a massive £28 million fortune.
The dispute escalated dramatically when Bhadresh was convicted of international money laundering in 2011 and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
While prosecutors argued the frozen multi-million-pound fortune comprised entirely criminal proceeds, the High Court determined that a significant portion stemmed from legitimate marital assets.
The UK Court of Appeal rejected further challenges, permanently securing the £6.6 million payout for the 61-year-old.
