More than 5,800 Ukrainian rail services were evacuated in September amid security threats linked to Russian drone strikes, national railway operator Ukrainian Railways told AFP on Monday.

The operator said 5,831 services were evacuated during the month, an average of 205 services each day, as railway operations were affected by security alerts across the country.

Passengers and railway staff were moved to safety when threats were detected, with services temporarily disrupted as authorities responded to potential attacks.

Ukraine’s railway network has remained a critical part of the country’s transport system during the war, carrying passengers and supporting essential movement across regions despite repeated security risks.

The figures highlight the scale of the disruption caused by ongoing drone threats and the measures required to protect passengers and railway workers.
