Colombo: Sri Lankan police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly promoting the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) through social media. The suspect, a resident of Kilinochchi, was apprehended following an investigation into digital content posted online.
According to law enforcement authorities, the man attended a musical concert in the Jaffna district where he recorded the event. He then allegedly edited two songs from the performance to include content glorifying the separatist group, before uploading the footage to his social media accounts to maximize its digital reach.
The suspect has been produced before a Magistrate’s Court and remanded in custody for two weeks under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. The LTTE remains strictly prohibited in Sri Lanka following the military's 2009 victory over the group.
