It is important to strengthen effective partnership between the public and private sectors and integrate efforts that would develop various services for citizens, contribute to diversifying economic tributaries, and achieve qualitative achievements in various vital sectors, especially energy services.

Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan made the statement during the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs and ABB Company. ABB is the technology leader in electrification and automation to supply five charging stations with a capacity of 360 kilowatts to charge electric vehicles (EVs) with high speed and efficiency, according to leading international standards in this field, in order to install them in several strategic locations across the Kingdom.

The move is among the steps taken by the Ministry to provide the infrastructure for electric vehicles, which is of great importance in encouraging and raising awareness among citizens and residents about adopting and including electric vehicles within a sustainable lifestyle that is in line with the global shift towards sustainable and low-carbon mobility solutions.

Humaidan indicated that the project will contribute to strengthening the path towards achieving the national goals announced by the Kingdom at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) to reach zero neutrality by 2060 and reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2035.

He added that the Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs, in cooperation with the competent entities in the public and private sectors, is about to start preparing an integrated strategy to support sustainable mobility solutions in the Kingdom, in particular electric vehicles.

The minister noted that one the most important objectives of the strategy is to develop policies, regulations and infrastructure required for charging electric vehicles.
