Al Derazi took part in the election observation mission in the Russian Federation at the invitation of the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights, alongside representatives of human rights organisations and international observers.

The delegation visited several polling stations and the central election monitoring headquarters to review the electoral process, including regulatory procedures, voting mechanisms, the presence of representatives of participating parties and observers, and vote-counting procedures.

Electronic voting was conducted through the federal platform in 32 regions, alongside a separate electronic voting system used in Moscow.

As part of the visit, Al Derazi participated in a roundtable discussion on election monitoring, international dialogue and best practices. He highlighted the NIHR’s experience in monitoring elections and stressed the importance of dialogue and exchanging expertise despite differences in legal systems and national circumstances.

He said such exchanges can contribute to strengthening public participation and protecting rights associated with electoral processes.

The NIHR said its participation reflects its interest in sharing expertise and best practices in human rights monitoring of elections, which are linked to fundamental rights and freedoms, including participation in public life, freedom of opinion and expression, equality and non-discrimination.

The institution also highlighted the importance of transparent electoral procedures and effective mechanisms for complaints and appeals.

The NIHR has previously monitored parliamentary and municipal elections in Bahrain in 2018, 2022 and 2024. It has also participated in monitoring legislative elections in Jordan, regional elections in Morocco and the Russian State Duma elections in 2021.
