TDT | Manama

The High Criminal Court ruled to punish six people who are accused of participating in the gathering and burning of tyres in Sitra, with imprisonment for a period of three years.

The details of the incident start when the main operations room received a report stating that unknown people set fire to five tyres on a street in the Sitra area.

They then threw “Molotov” flammable bottles on the security forces stationed at the site with the intention to endanger the lives of people as well as public and private properties.

It was found that the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and unknown accused had gathered in a public place and carried the “Molotov” flammable bottles; they placed the tyres on the street, poured petroleum on them, set them on fire, threw those flammable bottles at the security forces stationed at the site, and fled inside the area.

The first accused admitted to the Public Prosecution’s investigations that on the day of the incident he was present with the rest of the accused in Sitra. The sixth accused then came to them and asked them to burn tyres and assault the armoured force located near the police station.

Then, they carried the tyres and inflammable bottles and went to the site in which the accused threw burning bottles on the armoured vehicle and the security forces, while the rest of the accused placed the tyres, poured petroleum on them, burned them, and fled into the area.

Moreover, the rest of the accused confessed to the incident. The Public Prosecution and the Capital Governorate’s Security Committee attributed the following criminal charges to the accused during the years 2018 and 2019: First, they and the unknown accused had intentionally set fire to the movables, which are described and numbered in the documents, and this would have endangered the lives of people and properties as they placed the tyres in a public place and started a fire.

Second, they and the other unknown accused participated in a gathering in a public place consisting of more than five people whose purpose was to commit crimes and disturb public security using violence.

Third, they and the other unknown accused acquired and possessed flammable “Molotov” bottles with the criminal intent to use them.
