Appeals court upholds life in prison term of cop killer

The Supreme Criminal Court of Appeal turned down the appeal of a man sentenced to life in prison for killing a police officer and injuring an elderly citizen in separate explosions in the Northern Governorate. The appellant was part of a group of 23 charged with organizing the 2014 blasts.

Public Prosecution accused them of murder, using and possessing firearms, serving terrorist purposes, fundraising for terrorist groups, rioting, participating in illegal gatherings and possessing Molotov cocktails. The court gave the appellant a life in prison, while also revoking his citizenship.

Similar punishments, including a death penalty, were given to others involved in the crime. The court also ordered two involved to pay BD200,000 fines following the incidents reported on 8 December 2014.
