600 families to get food aid

Manama : As part of the Lions Club of Riffa Ramadan initiative, 600 families will be donated food packets through the Red Crescent Society. The handover ceremony was held at the Red Crescent Society, Diplomatic Area, Manama yesterday. At the ceremony, the Lions Club of Riffa handed the donation to the Red Crescent Society, which would further distribute the packages to the needy families in Bahrain.

“The Club has been helping poor families through this initiative for the past 20 years. The donations are arranged by the contribution received from the members and a few of our well-wishers. The recipient families will be given packs containing staple foods such as rice, cooking oil, sugar and tea. This year, the Lions Club donated more than 7 tonnes of food valued more than BD3000, that would provide for 600 needy families in Bahrain,” Rosh Paulose, President of the Lions Club of Riffa told DT News.

“We have a social committee that studies the cases of these families and on basis of our evaluations we help these families both in cash and kind. Generally, the distribution is made before Ramadan so that we could help them during the fasting month. Furthermore, we invite others to come forward and donate and help us bless these families in need,” Mubarak Al Hadi, Director General of Red Cresent Society said.
