Steals mother’s car to carry fake bomb and place it in Hamad Town
Manama
A Bahraini teenager, who stole his mother's vehicle to carry a fake bomb, was sentenced to three years behind bars. A friend of the defendant was also tried in connection with this case, but the High Criminal Court acquitted him due to lack of evidence. As per the case details, the defendant placed the deceptive device in Hamad Town.
On a tip-off, police officials rushed the scene to examine the fake bomb. After dismantling it, the police lifted DNA samples as well as fingerprints from the scene. Meanwhile, the DNA samples match with the DNA samples of the defendant.
Later the 19-year-old was arrested and he admitted to the crime. He said that he was egged on to do it by someone nicknamed "Almous".
"I took my mother's car without her permission and reached the place where I was told that I would find the device. I was accompanied by my friend (the second defendant)," the defendant said during interrogation.
"There was a bag containing an extinguisher connected with wires and a phone covered with a tape. When I picked it up, I was told by Almous to put the device in Hamad Town roundabout 22. So I put it there and left,” he added.
The defendant was charged on grounds of placing a fake bomb to trigger panic as well as driving a car without license. The second defendant was accused of abetting the crime.
