Bahrain Backs Diplomatic Efforts and Humanitarian Mediation at UN Security Council Session on Ukraine
The Kingdom of Bahrain has reiterated its support for diplomatic solutions and humanitarian mediation efforts aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine during a United Nations Security Council session in New York.
In a statement delivered at the session, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei welcomed the announcement of a temporary ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine mediated by the United States, describing it as an important step toward advancing dialogue and supporting a comprehensive political solution that promotes security and stability in Europe.
Alrowaiei praised ongoing humanitarian mediation initiatives, including efforts led by the United Arab Emirates which recently facilitated a prisoner exchange involving 410 detainees between Russia and Ukraine. He noted that UAE mediation efforts have now resulted in the release of 7,101 captives across 23 operations.
The ambassador also commended the mediation role of Saudi Arabia in securing detainee exchanges, alongside efforts by Qatar to reunite Ukrainian and Russian children with their families, describing the initiatives as constructive humanitarian contributions that support de-escalation and strengthen prospects for peace.
During the session, Alrowaiei warned against the increasing use of drones in armed conflicts, particularly when their impact extends beyond the directly involved parties and risks escalating regional tensions.
He further stressed the importance of the United Nations Secretary-General’s call for an immediate, full and lasting ceasefire as a first step toward achieving a just and sustainable peace consistent with the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The ambassador reaffirmed Bahrain’s support for all regional and international initiatives seeking to end the war through dialogue and peaceful means, including mediation efforts aimed at securing a permanent ceasefire and advancing long-term stability in Ukraine.
