The First High Criminal Court of Appeal upheld a three-year prison sentence against a driver convicted of causing a fatal traffic accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.
The defendant was found guilty of causing the death of one person and injuring three others after speeding and driving recklessly in an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
According to court documents, the accident occurred around 11:25 p.m. The driver, travelling at 75 km/h on a road with a 50 km/h speed limit, lost control and collided with another vehicle. The impact forced the vehicle into the opposite lane, where it crashed head-on with a third vehicle.
The driver then struck a roadside metal barrier, briefly fled the scene, and returned after parking his vehicle nearby. The crash killed one passenger and seriously injured several others.
