Drug smuggling: Detention of Bangladeshi men extended
Manama
The six were arrested after two of them were busted separately at the Bahrain International Airport attempting to smuggle marijuana stashed slippers.
The first arrest was made after customs officials suspected the first defendant, who was arriving from Dhaka. Police inspected his bag and found four slippers, in which marijuana was stashed.
During interrogations, the first defendant stated that he had received the slippers from a countryman, who requested him to deliver them to a man (the third defendant) in Bahrain.
The second, third and fourth defendants were later captured in a sting operation. The fifth defendant was also arrested at the airport trying to smuggle using the same tactic.
He turned on the sixth co-defendant by revealing his identity. The police captured him after allowing the fifth defendant to contact him.
