Bahrain Welcomes Ceasefire Initiative, Calls for Lasting Peace in the Middle East
The Kingdom of Bahrain has expressed strong support for the recent announcement by Donald Trump regarding a proposed two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran, viewing it as a significant step toward reducing tensions and restoring stability in the region.
In an official statement, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that the agreement includes key understandings to ensure the immediate, safe, and full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. This vital maritime route plays a crucial role in global energy supplies and international trade, and its secure operation is seen as essential for maintaining economic stability worldwide.
The Kingdom commended the constructive mediation efforts undertaken by Pakistan, which contributed significantly to facilitating dialogue and achieving this temporary ceasefire. Bahrain emphasized that such diplomatic initiatives are critical in fostering trust and paving the way for broader negotiations.
At the same time, Bahrain underscored the importance of translating this step into a comprehensive and immediate cessation of all hostile actions. It called on Iran to halt any aggressive and unjustified activities targeting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in line with relevant international resolutions, including UN Security Council directives.
The statement further stressed the need for Iran to fully adhere to the principles of good neighborliness, international law, and global legitimacy. Bahrain reiterated its call for a sustainable solution that ensures Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons, while also halting the development and proliferation of ballistic missiles and drones. Additionally, it urged an end to activities that could destabilize the Gulf region, including interference in the internal affairs of other nations.
Bahrain reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all regional and international diplomatic efforts aimed at solidifying the ceasefire and achieving a lasting peace agreement in the Middle East. The Kingdom emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and critical infrastructure, ensuring the safety of maritime and air navigation, and keeping vital waterways open.
Such measures, Bahrain noted, are essential not only for regional security but also for safeguarding global energy supplies, facilitating the free flow of international trade, and promoting sustainable development and prosperity across the region and beyond.
The Kingdom concluded by expressing hope that this ceasefire would serve as a foundation for long-term stability, reinforcing peace, security, and cooperation among nations.
