Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the storming and vandalism of Kuwait’s Consulate General in Basra, calling it a clear violation of diplomatic norms.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the intrusion, damage, and assaults linked to the incident, describing them as unacceptable and unlawful acts targeting a diplomatic mission.
The ministry stressed the need to protect diplomatic premises and personnel in line with international law, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees immunity and security for such missions.
It also called on Iraq to meet its legal obligations by ensuring the safety of the consulate, launching a full investigation, preventing similar incidents, and holding those responsible accountable.
The UAE reaffirmed its solidarity with Kuwait, underscoring the importance of safeguarding diplomatic missions to uphold regional stability and international norms.
