Askar hails 2015 Olympic Day

Manama

Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar gave a double thumbsup to the 2015 Olympic Day, which was held last Friday at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

The event was organised by the BOC as Bahrain celebrated this year’s edition of the Olympic Day with more than 1,500 involved in a number of activities which included a multi-category race.

“I was personally thrilled and excited for the smooth running of the events held at the venue as we take this opportunity to celebrate the youth with other parts of the world to observe the Olympic values of Fair Play, Perseverance, Respect and Sportsmanship, said Askar.
Askar noted that Olympic Day aims to celebrate the three pillars of the International Olympic Committee that are Move, Learn and Discover.

“We look to share the international Olympic community its efforts in promoting the principles of Olympism and the noble human values, where this ceremonial occasion occupies an important part in our annual agenda,” added Askar.

This year’s celebration was held under the patronage of His Majesty the Kingdom’s representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who delegated Supreme Council general secretary and BOC vice-president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.

Askar extended his thanks to Shaikh Nasser for his continued support to the Olympic Day and Shaikh Salman for attending the event this year, which played a major part in its success.

He also expressed appreciation to the sponsoring companies for backing the activities – McDonalds, Jawad, Trafco Group and Palace Projects, besides the sports associations of athletics, maritime sports, tennis, table tennis and disabled sports for their contributions.
