MANAMA: The Kingdom of Bahrain’s tenure as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council has garnered significant international acclaim, most recently highlighted by high-level praise from the Republic of Portugal.
In a diplomatic exchange between Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and his Portuguese counterpart, Paulo Rangel, the Kingdom was commended for its constructive contributions to multilateralism and its unwavering commitment to supporting global peace and security.
A cornerstone of this recognition is Bahrain’s proactive leadership in addressing critical regional challenges, particularly through its initiative to submit a draft resolution aimed at securing maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Portugal emphasized that this move reflects Bahrain’s strategic vision and its dedication to safeguarding essential global interests, including the stability of international energy markets and the security of global food supply chains. By championing such resolutions, Bahrain has positioned itself as an effective and responsible actor within the Council, capable of driving international efforts toward regional stability.
Beyond the Kingdom’s specific contributions to the Security Council, the dialogue underscored the deepening bilateral ties between Bahrain and Portugal. Both ministers reviewed the close friendship and growing cooperation that define their relationship, expressing a mutual desire to expand these ties across various sectors.
This diplomatic engagement not only reinforces Bahrain’s positive international standing but also demonstrates the Kingdom’s vital role in bridging regional concerns with global diplomatic solutions.
