Trump announces two-week ceasefire proposal with Iran

US President Donald Trump has announced a proposed two-week suspension of military action against Iran, following diplomatic discussions involving Pakistan’s leadership, according to a statement attributed to the White House.

The statement said the decision came after conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who reportedly urged Washington to pause a planned escalation of military action.

Under the proposal, the United States would suspend “bombing and attacks” on Iran for two weeks, provided that Tehran agrees to the “complete, immediate, and safe opening” of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route.

The statement described the arrangement as a “double-sided ceasefire” and suggested that Washington believes its stated military objectives have already been achieved. It also indicated that discussions on a longer-term peace framework are underway.

According to the statement, Iran has submitted a 10-point proposal that US officials consider a potential basis for further negotiations. It added that most areas of past disagreement between the two sides have reportedly been addressed, and that the temporary pause would allow time to finalise a broader agreement.

The statement further framed the development as part of wider efforts toward regional stability in the Middle East, noting optimism that a long-standing conflict could be moving closer to resolution.
