Kuwait City: Kuwait has strongly condemned the storming and vandalism of its Consulate General in Basra, calling the incident a serious breach of diplomatic norms and international law.
In a statement carried by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attack as a “grave and unacceptable” violation of diplomatic protocols, including an assault on the sanctity of the diplomatic and consular missions.
The ministry said the incident breaches Iraq’s obligations under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (1963), holding the Iraqi government fully responsible for the attack and for ensuring the protection of diplomatic premises.
Kuwait urged Iraqi authorities to take swift action to hold those responsible accountable and prevent similar incidents in the future.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to neutrality, moderation, and good neighbourly relations, warning that such violations could strain bilateral ties and erode mutual trust.
