Woman gets prison after receiving stolen ‘gifts’

An Arab woman, who was found guilty of hiding stolen items, has appealed claiming that she received them in the form of gifts.

The woman was earlier sentenced to six months in jail. Her appeal hearing will commence on
February 21.

The defendant was the girlfriend of a Yemeni thief who was specialised in robbing houses. He reportedly gave her some of the items to hide, but she claimed that those were gifts from her boyfriend.

“He (the Yemeni man) gifted me valuable items and accessories and took me to renowned stores and shops,” the woman told the prosecutors.

“I met him in a bar, but I didn’t know that he was a thief,” she added.

The police raided the woman’s house after she was arrested in connection with a robbery case and found several stolen items in her house.

However, she voluntarily handed over two watches and six perfume bottles that were given to her by the Yemeni.
