The Shura Council has reaffirmed its rejection of a proposal to extend the traffic fine "half-settlement" period from 7 to 30 days, maintaining that such an extension would undermine the deterrent effect of recent traffic laws aimed at increasing road safety. The Council emphasized the need for legislative consistency, ensuring that legal timeframes align with the primary objective of discouraging violations.
In addition to the traffic decision, the Council approved a new Private Schools Law to replace the outdated 1998 legislation. This comprehensive law modernizes the regulation of the private education sector, encompassing everything from nurseries and kindergartens to foreign institutes and community schools. The session also saw the approval of an administrative amendment granting the Secretariat of the Council of Representatives a three-month window, up from one month, to prepare and submit audited final accounts, streamlining the financial review process for the Council Bureau and Speaker.
