Mitsubishi Pajero returns in a new avatar

The Mitsubishi Pajero is making a comeback, with an all-new fifth-generation model set to revive the iconic off-roader.

The new Pajero will initially go on sale in Thailand, Japan and Australia, with launches expected by the end of March 2027.

Under the skin, the new Pajero moves to a ladder-frame chassis shared with the Mitsubishi Triton pickup.

It measures 4,920 mm long, 1,925 mm wide and 1,900 mm tall, with a 2,870 mm wheelbase and 230 mm of ground clearance. The design is unmistakably more imposing.

Up front is a large grille flanked by T-shaped LED headlights, while the rear gets similarly styled LED taillights. A flat roofline, squared-off wheel arches and chunky bumpers reinforce its rugged SUV character.

Inside, the new Pajero offers three-row seating for seven. The dashboard gets a pair of 12.3-inch screens, along with a four-spoke steering wheel. And unlike many modern SUVs, Mitsubishi has retained plenty of physical controls, including a rotary controller for the four-wheel-drive system.

Power comes from a 2.4-litre turbo-charged diesel engine, producing 201 bhp and 470 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and Mitsubishi's Super Select 4WD-II four-wheel-drive system.
