Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamad Khaled Nordin, who accompanied His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim of Malaysia during his official visit to Bahrain, highlighted the strong and exemplary relationship between the two nations, describing it as a model of understanding and cooperation amid global geopolitical challenges.

In remarks to Malaysia’s Bernama news agency, Minister Nordin emphasized that “official visits of this nature reflect His Majesty the King’s efforts to strengthen personal and direct relations with leaders, opening broader avenues for partnerships based on trust and genuine collaboration.”

He noted that Malaysia’s neutral foreign policy encourages the expansion of strategic partnerships and pointed out that Bahrain, with its robust economy built on oil, gas, aluminum, and financial services, could serve as a key partner in opening new markets for Malaysia, including in Africa.

The minister also stressed the importance of security and defense cooperation between the two countries. “As members of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Bahrain and Malaysia prioritize promoting regional peace and stability to support global trade,” he said.

He added that “security in the Gulf and ASEAN regions represents a shared priority, which underscores the importance of exchanging expertise and intelligence to ensure stability.”

Minister Nordin concluded by affirming that the royal visit has laid the foundation for a new phase in Bahrain-Malaysia relations, requiring strategic planning to leverage mutual interests and foster closer ties for the benefit of both nations.
