Derasat, Saudi Library Step Up Knowledge Exchange
Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, visited the King Fahad National Library in Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed was received by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Special Adviser to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Fahad National Library.
During the visit, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed and HRH Prince Faisal bin Salman attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Derasat and the King Fahad National Library.
The agreement was signed by Abdulla Mohamed Alahmed, Chief Executive Officer of Derasat, and Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Hammoudi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the King Fahad National Library.
The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions to support research and knowledge communities. It includes scientific and knowledge cooperation, professional expertise exchange, information and document sharing, and organizing seminars, workshops and conferences.
It also provides for the development of joint training plans and programmes and aims to improve the work environment through the exchange of expertise and knowledge.
The agreement builds on intellectual and knowledge cooperation between relevant institutions in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, while supporting scientific research, historical documentation and knowledge development.
During the visit, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed presented HRH Prince Faisal bin Salman with an honorary fellowship from Derasat in recognition of his contributions to supporting knowledge and scientific research and documenting national memory.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed expressed his appreciation to HRH Prince Faisal bin Salman for the warm reception and praised the King Fahad National Library for its role in preserving intellectual works and making them accessible.
HRH Prince Faisal bin Salman said the MoU builds on the existing partnership with Bahrain in research and studies and represents a model of integration between institutions involved in preserving, producing and providing access to knowledge.
The King Fahad National Library is Saudi Arabia’s national library. It collects, organises, documents and promotes national intellectual works, along with heritage books, manuscripts, documents and publications related to Saudi Arabia and Arab and Islamic civilisation.
The library also cooperates with libraries, organisations and relevant institutions in Saudi Arabia and abroad.
