Jailed man pleads not guilty in case
A Bahraini man, who spent three years behind bars for causing the death of a man, appeared in the dock again yesterday facing the same charge. He is standing trial before the High Criminal Court after hitting a man with an iron rod on his head. The defendant was sent for trial following the victim’s death.
According to court files, the duo were involved in a brawl at a house. Police officers were informed about the quarrel, and a police patrol reached the scene.
They were told that there wasn’t anything unusual happening. But later, the police received another tip-off that there was a dead man inside the house.
The police patrol found two lying on the ground, one motionless and the other (the defendant) with injuries. The police officers were initially told by the house owners that the duo were attacked by a group of people.
The defendant was taken to hospital for treatment, but denied they were assaulted by anybody.
He then revealed that he was involved in a fight with the defendant, and he acted only in self-defence.
“He took out an iron rod and attacked me. But, I managed to snatch it from him and beat him with it. He fell on the ground and again tried to assault me,” the defendant explained.
“But, later he told me that he was feeling dizzy and fell on the ground again. I didn’t mean to kill him,” he added.
According to court files, the defendant had spent three years in prison after being found guilty of causing the death of another man.
He entered into a not guilty plea yesterday before the High Criminal Court.
