A group of MPs has submitted a proposal urging the government to open up restored historic ancient homes and landmarks for investment opportunities.

The initiative, spearheaded by MPs Basma Mubarak, Jalal Kadhem, Ahmed Al Salloom, Dr Hisham Al Ashiri, and Jalila Al Sayed aims to transform these sites into cafes, restaurants, and other attractions to boost tourism and create year-round events.

The proposal emphasises that all buildings would undergo complete restoration by the government before being made available for investment. The accompanying explanatory memorandum highlights the importance of preserving Bahrain's cultural identity through its historical architecture. The MPs argue that expanding the concept of heritage villages to all governorates will help achieve this goal.

The memorandum further suggests that such projects would generate significant new revenue for the state, emphasizing the global importance of tourism as a source of income. The MPs also believe the initiative would create numerous job opportunities for Bahraini citizens.
