LONDON: Serena Williams, 44, has accepted a wildcard entry for the Wimbledon singles tournament, marking a stunning return to major competition.

The seven-time champion will compete for her 24th Grand Slam title beginning June 29, ending a long hiatus from singles play that followed her 2022 decision to ‘evolve away’ from professional tennis.

Although Williams was already confirmed to participate in the doubles event alongside her sister Venus, this singles wildcard adds a significant chapter to her historic career and creates a massive storyline for the prestigious grass-court event.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion’s decision underscores her renewed commitment to the sport after appearing at the Queen’s Club Championships earlier this month.

The legend is now poised to grace the world's most iconic stage once again, refocusing the entire tennis world on SW19 as she bids for another trophy.
