Esports Trio Reach Quarter-Finals

Bahrain advanced to the quarter-finals of the Asian Games fighting games esports competition after finishing second in Group C yesterday.

Competing at Aichi Sky Expo, the kingdom’s representatives opened their campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan before going down 3-1 to Saudi Arabia in their second and final group match.

Against Kyrgyzstan, the trio swept all three disciplines, winning Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8 and The King of Fighters XV to make the perfect start.

They then took the opening Street Fighter 6 set against Saudi Arabia, but their Gulf rivals responded by winning the next three to seal a 3-1 victory.

The results left Bahrain second in Group C with one win and one defeat, behind Saudi Arabia, who topped the section with a perfect record. Kyrgyzstan finished third after losing both of their matches.

The Bahrainis now face Japan in the quarter-finals today at 5am Bahrain time at Aichi Sky Expo Hall D.

Yusuf Bahram, Mohamed Derbas and Husam Alansari make up the three-man line-up, while Japan will be represented by Kojiro Higuchi, Daichi Nakayama and Akihito Sawada.

Victory would send them into the semi-finals later today. The two last-four matches are scheduled for 11am and 1pm, with the final set for 10am tomorrow.
