The United Arab Emirates has announced the successful mediation of a new prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, resulting in the release of 185 prisoners from each side.

According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the latest exchange brings the total number of prisoners swapped through UAE-mediated efforts during the conflict to 7,471, underscoring Abu Dhabi’s continuing role as a neutral facilitator in humanitarian negotiations.

The ministry praised the cooperation of both countries in enabling the latest deal, describing it as a reflection of mutual appreciation for the UAE’s role as a trusted international mediator. It also noted that this exchange marks the 24th successful mediation initiative undertaken by the UAE since the start of the conflict.

Officials said the latest development highlights the strength of the UAE’s diplomatic relationships with both Moscow and Kyiv, which have helped facilitate ongoing humanitarian outcomes despite the broader geopolitical tensions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that the UAE will continue to support initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine, while also working to reduce its humanitarian impact, particularly regarding displaced civilians and prisoners of war.
