CANBERRA: An Australian federal court has upheld a $465,000 fine against Elon Musk’s X, rejecting the platform's legal appeal over its failure to comply with a government-mandated child safety probe.

The penalty was originally issued by Australia's eSafety Commissioner after the tech company failed to provide detailed answers regarding its measures to detect, remove, and prevent online child sexual abuse material.

X fiercely challenged the watchdog's authority in court, arguing that corporate transitions following Musk's acquisition absolved it of the specific timeline requirements.

However, the federal judge firmly dismissed the appeal, ruling that global technology firms remain fully accountable to sovereign safety standards.

The landmark ruling marks a significant victory for internet regulators seeking greater transparency from global social media conglomerates. X now faces mounting pressure to comply with the enforcement orders or risk facing even stiffer legal penalties.
