US Supreme Court Blocks Trump’s Mail Ballot Restrictions

Washington: The US Supreme Court has rejected the Trump administration's attempt to impose new limitations on mail-in voting ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections, allowing existing state processes to remain in place.
The verdict prevents the US Postal Service from requiring states to disclose voter lists and utilise specific, USPS-approved ballot envelopes and barcodes. The USPS might have refused to distribute ballots that did not fulfil the new conditions.
The government maintained that the measures would improve election security, while opponents claimed they would interrupt voting and unlawfully expand federal control over elections. The Supreme Court said that the government's legal challenge was unlikely to prevail at this time.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh supported retaining the limits in place for the 2026 election, citing insufficient time for officials to put them into effect. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented.
