Dehradun: Renowned Indian author Ruskin Bond celebrated his 92nd birthday with the release of his latest work, ‘All-Time Favourite Friendship Stories’, which delighted readers with nostalgic stories from his early years and literary career.
Speaking at a special event in Dehradun, Bond recalled about his early school days, childhood friendships, and the simple joys of growing up in the hills. He told them stories about his time at boarding school, how he loved aloo tikkis, and how his own experiences inspired popular characters like Rusty.
Bond added that human relationships and friendship, which has always been one of his favourite subjects, are the foundation of many of his literary works.
The collection of stories in the new book emphasises friendship, empathy, and emotional bonds that have always touched with readers of all ages.
Bond, who is regarded as one of India's most cherished storytellers, has written more than 500 novels, essays, and short stories over the course of a seven-decade career. His classics, including The Blue Umbrella, The Room on the Roof, and Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra, are still admired by readers of all ages.
Even in his nineties, the veteran writer, who lives in Landour, close to Mussoorie, continues to actively interact with fans through book launches and literary events, encouraging young readers and budding writers.
